What This Week’s Data Shows

Below is a snapshot of this week’s live MarketFIT data, highlighting key shifts in demand, capacity, and pricing across top U.S. freight markets.

Freight market conditions in Pendleton, OR improved sharply over the past week, with the Overall Fit Score increasing by 15.97 points to 37.54. The increase marks a strong recovery from the early-September low of 15.08 and brings the score to its highest level in the period shown. The rebound points to improving market momentum, but conditions remain mixed: carrier rejection activity is exceptionally high even as more freight enters the market than leaves it.

Outbound Tender Volume is at 27.4, compared to 32.4 for Inbound Tender Volume, resulting in a -5.0 Head Haul Index. This negative differential indicates that inbound freight volume exceeds outbound demand, potentially leaving more equipment available for shipments departing Pendleton. That balance may help moderate upward pressure on spot rates and provide shippers with additional capacity options. However, inbound equipment may not align with the lanes, schedules, or equipment requirements of outbound shipments.

The Outbound Tender Reject Index (OTRI) is currently at 40.95, indicating exceptionally elevated carrier rejection activity. An OTRI near 41 suggests that carriers are rejecting roughly four out of every ten contracted outbound tenders, potentially pushing some freight into the spot market. This level of rejection is particularly notable given the negative Head Haul Index. It suggests that, despite the overall inbound surplus, contracted capacity remains difficult to secure for some outbound shipments.

Overall, Pendleton is showing a substantial week-over-week improvement in its Fit Score, but the underlying indicators do not point to uniform capacity tightening. Inbound volume exceeds outbound volume, while carrier rejections remain exceptionally high. Shippers may find equipment available in the market yet still face higher costs or service challenges on specific lanes. The next signal to watch is whether rejection activity eases as inbound equipment becomes available, or whether persistent outbound capacity constraints continue alongside the stronger Fit Score.

Carriers Continue To Find Strong Opportunities With These Lanes:

These lanes continue to offer attractive earning potential as pricing remains elevated across major Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast freight corridors, providing carriers with consistent opportunities in high-demand regional markets.
